The LCM and GCF Scavenger Hunt

The Scavenger Hunt provided a fun way for grade 6 students to practice finding the LCM and GCF of math word problems.
I distributed for every student “LCM and GCF word problem cards”. Students started at any card and solved the problem. They then searched for the card with the answer to that problem. The search continued until all 8 problems were solved. As students were traveling around the classroom completing the scavenger hunt, they recorded their answers on the record sheet. My students and I loved this activity because it got students out of their seats and triggered cooperative learning among them. It was a great way to have fun in our Math class!

Modeling the parts of the digestive system- Kinesthetic model

Kinesthetic grade 5 students acted out the process of digestion in an interesting activity.
First, we placed several M &Ms in a small plastic bag.

Then, we placed the bag of candies along with wadded papers in a plastic container.

Finally, we brought spray bottles filled with water that demonstrated the juices in our digestive system; we labeled them as Saliva, gastric juice, pancreatic juice, and bile.

Now it’s grade 5 students turn to model the digestive system. Students were divided into 2 groups and lined up facing each other. The path between them is the digestive tract. All the students worked together to push the food particles down the tract. I assigned a job for each pairs of students, based on their position along the digestive tract. The first 2 students were the molars that cut food into small pieces. Then the second 2 students were the saliva, stomach, small intestine, and finally the large intestine.

At the end of this activity we all enjoyed eating the delicious M & Ms.

Dramatic play in the Rooms of the house.

While studying the rooms of the house, I brought some toys to replicate some of the areas in the house. The children had fun exploring all areas through dramatic play, and practiced the 'Value of the Month', "Sharing, Caring and Cooperation", by taking turns with the toys, looking after the baby, by bathing and feeding it, and playing together in a nice way.

The B.U.G. award.

To encourage the students in KG2 I introduced a smiley chart in the classroom. Students receive smiley faces when they are; following classroom rules, participating in activities, staying on task, as well as for trying hard and good behaviour.
Whoever collects the most smiley faces each week will receive a reward, and whoever has been extra good (in particular with regards to behaviour) will receive the B.U.G. award.
I wonder who will get it next...

Augmented Reality In Science Class

Today  in our science class we had an amazing  and interactive learning experience where we used the augmented reality technology to see the animals flashcards that we sorted into different groups.

We used  AR flashcards app . With this app learning is fun since it uses augmented reality to engage the students in learning to boost their creativity and imagination  . AR Flashcards are a new way to interact and make Flashcards more entertaining for students  .When you point your IPad device at the printed flashcard a beautifully rendered 3D animal will pop up on the screen. Tap the animal to hear its name  .This activity enhances students' phonemic awareness and listening skills addressing all visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners.

Global Teenager Project- Phase 2

During the second phase of GTP, KSPS grade 6 students communicated and collaborated with our friends in Ukraine and Bangladesh to learn about the educational systems in their countries. We had the chance to compare their educational systems to that of Lebanon. Simultaneously, we informed our friends in Bangladesh and Ukraine about the educational system here in Lebanon. To check our understanding, our friends asked us to draw a Venn diagram to compare and contrast between the educational systems in Ukraine and Bangladesh.

The Dancing Decimal

Grade 6 students are learning how to multiply and divide decimal numbers by multiples of 10. I realized that most students struggle with this concept. Thus, it was time for a hands-on fun activity.
I used colored chalk to draw the place value frame on the floor of the playground.
We used a playground ball to represent the decimal point.
Students were given a piece of paper with a digit on it to stand in the right place value place.
I then called an operation and a power of 10 and students shall shift accordingly.
This activity not only provides a great visual for the students, but it also adds an active element for my kinesthetic learners.

Ending our reading lesson in a special way

I loved to end our reading lesson in grade two in a special way. Since our reading lesson was  'Teacher's Pet" and since it was talking about a teacher who loved pets, I asked my students to bring animal masks and some cupcakes, popcorn, juice, ..Grade two put on their masks and celebrated together

Preposition Words

Preposition words is a grammar lesson that we have covered in grade one. During explaining this lesson, I asked my students to act out the preposition words. They were asked to stand on the table , to sit under the table, to stand between two tables, ... This activity helped my students to grasp this lesson easily and also it helped in changing the class into an interactive class. Moreover, to make sure that all my students understood this lesson, I also asked them to draw pictures including these prepositions words
