Joint Efforts to Rescue Animals: The American Embassy and BETA

"Education is not merely the knowledge of facts, but of values." To reach that sublime aim, our school works on providing our students with opportunities that help raising them to be responsible citizens and environmentalists with a deep sense of commitment to the values of Islam as well. One of these values is the humane treatment of animals. For that purpose, an important event organized by The American Embassy and the BETA, Beirut for Ethical Treatment of Animals Organization was held last Thursday at school. The focus was on raising students' awareness of how to treat animals well, take care of them, and preserve those that might become endangered. The students watched a movie titled "Free Willy" about saving whales, and then the representatives of BETA gave a presentation about their work with animals and also offered some valuable information and tips about pets especially kittens. Students were eager to ask questions that they were more than happy to answer. The event was covered by the French T.V. Special thanks go to The American Embassy and BETA for their active work and efforts regarding this important issue. They have widened students' knowledge and helped in developing students' awareness and sense of responsibility regarding that issue. We thank the cultural attaché Ms Jennifer Williams and her assistant Ms Diana Copty for joining us and we look forward for more cooperation on such honorable deeds.
