Reading books is a different world for me. I always have a book beside my bed or in my car. And I always live with the characters of the books I am reading, they become a part of my life and I become a part of their world.
I wanted to pass on this habit to my students. I was lucky to be offered a collaborative activity by Ahliah School, and together we made a reading competition come true, which was called “The Battle of Books”.
Students from grades 5 and 6 were assigned to read 21 classic short stories throughout the school year and upon that at the end 4 students were chosen from each grade to participate in the competition.
On Wednesday, 20 May 2015 “The Battle of Books” activity took place and our students had the privilege to win and gain experience.
This activity did not only help my students in sharing, reading and working cooperatively, it also engraved the habit of reading in them and I guess this has made all the difference.
P.S: On my behalf, I would like to thank Mr. Rabih Murr (Ahliah School’s head of division upper school) for coming up with the idea, Ahliah school’s students and the organizers for managing and organizing the event, my (KSPS) students for trusting me, Mrs. Rawaa Shehab (Science/Math teacher/Coordinator and ISA coordinator) for supporting me, the parents of my students for bearing all the mess, and all those who supported us in the whole process.
